Checking the ignition time means that you verify or start opening the contact points when the piston or crankshaft is in the prescribed position. That is why it is always important to first check the opening of the contact points.
-
Check the time by using the center point mark on the flywheel and check the opening of the points with a test light, buzzer or ohmmeter that is connected to the points. In an emergency you can also check whether the points open by placing a thin feeler bowl (0.02 mm) or a cigarette flower between the points and feeling when it comes loose.
-
Follow the steps below: a. Turn the flywheel slowly by hand against the clock until the mark on the flywheel matches the right mark on the crankcase. b. The points must start to open at this point. c. If this is not the case, loosen the screws of the base plate and turn the entire base plate until this is the case. Make sure that the flywheel does not shift. Try not to adjust the time by shifting the fixed contact point! d. Turn the flywheel a full blow and check the time again. e. If the points do not close correctly due to wear and tear, replace the entire interruption and perform steps C and D again.

If a new flywheel or a new crankshaft is mounted, apply a new mark to the flywheel. Use a depth macrometer that is specially available on the market. Screw the depth micrometer in the spark plug, accurately determine the upper dead dot (BDP), set the depth meter to zero and carefully turn the flywheel against the clock (to the left) to 0.9 mm for the BDP and apply a mark.
